NQT Assessment Part One

Taken from my NQT Assessment Report:

Preamble

Jenny is making good progress against the standards in this section.

Jenny is keen to make the education of pupils her primary concern. She conducts herself with honesty and integrity and is beginning to recognise her accountability for expectations of high standards of work. She is building positive professional relationships with members of her teaching team and works closely with parents in the best interests of their children.

As observed in lessons, Jenny has good subject knowledge and continues to develop this through regular professional discussion with more experienced and knowledgeable members of staff.

Objectives for next term

Jenny should continue to develop professional working relationships with other members of staff throughout the school.

Section 1: Teaching

Jenny is making satisfactory progress against the standards in this section.

I have observed in lessons that Jenny is beginning to recognise and reward the positive attitudes, values and behaviours which are expected from pupils. Her teaching encourages and motivates pupils within the safe and stimulating classroom environment. She shows respect for her pupils, and this is often reciprocated. (Theme 1)

Jenny demonstrates an understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching. She can guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made through self-evaluation and Assessment for Learning activities during the plenary of her lessons. Jenny is developing a shared accountability for the progress and attainment of pupils in her class. (Theme 2)

Jenny shows a secure knowledge of the relevant subjects and curriculum areas taught. She promotes high standards of literacy and uses standard English correctly. Through informal conversation and NQT/mentor meetings, Jenny has demonstrated an understanding of recent developments in the new Primary Curriculum. (Theme 3)

I have witnessed Jenny working as part of a team to plan and deliver structured lessons which help to develop children’s curiosity and promote a love of learning. She has recently collaborated on the design and provision of an extended unit of work involving out-of-class activities that engage pupils and consolidate the knowledge and understanding they have acquired. (Theme 4)
