Cross Country Club

During the Autumn Term I worked together with a parent to run a Cross Country Club for KS2. This was attended by 25-35 pupils each week. I enjoyed teaching the club, and it allowed me to get to know pupils in years 3-6 a bit better! Many of these children represented the school at the Leicestershire Schools Cross Country league which was held on the first Saturday of the month. Attending these let me build relationships with many of the parents who took their children to the races. In order to prepare for the races we were able to take the children out of the school grounds to a local field and run around the footpath. This meant walking the route with the head teacher, looking at risk assessments and organising extra help. Unfortunately, we were only able to do this once, as cows appeared in the field and then the nights became too dark.

At the end of the race series, we were ranked in the small schools category as:
1st Year 6 Girls
1st Year 5 Girls
2nd Year 6 Boys
3rd Year 3 Girls

The other years also did really well, but having only one or two entries meant we didn't have the manpower to make the top three! We are hoping to compete in the area cross country which takes place in March of 2014.
